Unlocking The GM's Mind - 2nd Edition
There is No TOP Secret here, very strong players don't see everything while playing chess - they don't need to anyway! In a practical game, there is limited time for thinking. The decision-making should be done quickly and efficiently, as otherwise there will be no time to carry out a move.
Grandmasters focus on "what matters most" in a given board situation: safety of the King, control of an important diagonal/line or square, superior pieces and other factors that will bring an advantageous position. Taking into account these important elements, they will analyze and calculate only the necessary lines that will make their position better than the previous.
Three most important things to focus during a practical game:
(1) King Safety - secure position of the King
(2) Surprise Moves - intermediate moves to outplay an opponent
(3) Easier Play - activity and initiative
